Ahead of the Severance season 2 finale, Ben Stiller has promised we won’t have to wait too long for season 3 of the acclaimed TV show.
The Severance season 2 finale is almost upon us. We’re desperate to get some answers to all the questions writer Dan Erickson and Ben Stiller, who has directed several episodes of the show and is also making the final episode, have been teasing all season now.
Stiller has already stated that season 3 is in the works, although Apple hasn’t officially renewed the show yet. Season 1, all the way back in 2022, ended on a huge cliffhanger and fans had to wait three whole years to return to Lumon Industries and its depressing offices.
Stiller, talking to Jason and Travis Kelce on their New Heights Podcast (via The Independent here), feels positive that the wait won’t be quite as long this time around, though.
“No, the plan is not to [wait three years],” Stiller told the hosts. “Hopefully we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon.”

It’s not much, but with Severance getting more and more intriguing ā and frustrating, if you ask us ā we’re hanging onto any ray of hope at this point.
“It took us a little bit to regroup, and the show, we shot for 186 days on Season 2,ā Stiller said. āEditing takes a while, but thank goodness the audience was there when we came back. The challenge was to get people who hadn’t seen the show to watch the first season, so Apple did a really good job of getting the word out and we did as much press as we could.”
At the time of Severance season 1’s release, Apple was still relatively new to the streaming game, but Stiller notes things have changed.
“Also, three years later, Apple TV+ is actually a different…it’s a different situation there now because they have more viewers. When we started out, we were one of the first shows.”
AppleTV+ has indeed become one of the most reliably excellent streaming platforms with shows like Silo, Black Bird and Slow Horses earning rave reviews. Next on the streaming service’s agenda is The Studio, which is also gathering a positive response from critics. On the sci-fi front, thereās also a 10-part adaptation of William Gibsonās Neuromancer in the works.
Severance season 2 finale is out tomorrow, so look out for our review of it. We’ll bring you more news on Severance season 3 as we hear it.
