The Studio, from the brain of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, looks like movie nerd gold. It’s heading to Apple TV+ this month.

This writer is still not quite over HBO’s cancellation of The Franchise, the Himesh Patel-fronted comedy series that examined the absurdities of blockbuster filmmaking and wasn’t given any more chances to find its audience beyond a single season. It was funny, skewered the Marvel Cinematic Universe machine with precision satire and boasted Richard E Grant having the time of his life as a jaded (and very, very rude) classically-trained actor just taking a big studio paycheque and upsetting as many people as humanly possible.

However, it does look like an heir apparent is in place to take The Franchise’s vacated throne, courtesy of Apple TV. The streaming platform’s new series about the running of a film studio is called The Studio. Its first season has ten half hour episodes and the early reviews are strong indeed. What’s more, we also have a trailer to check out.

The show stars Seth Rogen who writes, directs, and executive produces alongside his usual collaborator Evan Goldberg. Rogen stars’ as the newly appointed head of Continental Studios. Desperate for the approval of celebrities, he and his team of executives must juggle corporate demands with creative ambitions as they try to keep movies alive and relevant.’

Also featuring in a rather stacked supporting cast are Catherine O’Hara, Bryan Cranston, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, and Dewayne Perkins. We’ll definitely be tuning in for this one and we’re hopng it will give us some inspiration regarding how to succeed in running our own film studio… in computer game form, of course.

Get ready for some high-powered cameos too. This is Apple so we’d imagine that the show isn’t short of a bob or two. If you do want to be surprised though, we’d suggest you look away now. Still here? Brilliant. The show will boast appearances from the likes of Martin Scorsese, Sarah Polley, Paul Dano, Adam Scott and more. The Studio premieres with two episodes on March 26th and will run through to late May.

Here’s the trailer below ahead of the show’s release later this month.
