Amazon is set to keep James Bond British and male, and the latest name in the director hat is Alfonso Cuaron. More on the rumours here.
The future of James Bond 007 is unlikely to back out of the headlines for a little while yet, with Amazon MGM Studios showing early indications of getting things moving. Amazon, of course, now has complete creative control over 007, and over the weekend, the thuddingly unpleasant Daily Mail ran a report suggesting things are happening.
It reckons it got hold of an internal Amazon memo which stipulates that James Bond will remain British and male going forward. This isn’t a particular surprise, but still, given the current media obsession with gender, it should keep the likes of the Mail quiet for a little bit. Some nice people work at the Mail, but the overall publication?
Letās move on.
More interesting, though, is the latest round of director rumours, which if anything are coming a bit full circle.

Two names are back in the frame. One is Alfonso Cuaron, who is more recent times has been working away from cinema. His last movie was 2018’s Roma. Cuaron comes into the frame if David Heyman, he of Harry Potter, is hired to produce the James Bond series going forward.
The other name is Edward Berger, who’s working on his new movie now, and has just come to the end of the awards campaign for the terrific Conclave. Berger, to my eyes, would be a superb choice, but his interest has come to the fore courtesy of a new comment or two to Yahoo!. He told the outlet that “Barbara Broccoli is no longer doing it and she is at the heart of this project, so I think it’s something different. I don’t know. Things have changed. We will certainly miss her very much.”
Which tells us precisely diddly squat really, but still: the current rumour mill is still pointing at Cuaron and Berger.
More news in due course.
