Con Air director Simon West has confirmed his next film, which will be sword and sandals epic Antara.
Simon West directed Con Air, one of the most enjoyable, gloriously over the top action films of the 1990s. Since then, he has stuck mainly to that genre, from Tomb Raider and The Expendables 2 (he is also responsible for the perennially parodied music video for Rick Astley’s 1987 classic Never Gonna Give You Up).
His next film is epic drama Antara, which follows “Antara ibn Shaddad, a slave in the sixth century who won his freedom and became a knight and one of the most famous poets in ancient Arabia. The film will be set against the backdrop of the Neom region in northwest Saudi Arabia”.
No cast has yet been confirmed, but West will direct from a screenplay by Alexander Amartei.
