AppleTV+’s darkly comedic espionage thriller Slow Horses, starring Gary Oldman, has been renewed for season 5. More here:

More great telly is on the horizon. AppleTV+’s awards juggernaut Slow Horses has been renewed for a fifth season, even though it only just wrapped up season three.

Slow Horses, which is based on Mick Herron’s series of novels, follows Slough House, a division of MI5 filled with agents who have, one way or another, messed up their career prospects and are mostly confined to their desks. Yet, somehow this ragtag group of British heroes seem to find themselves in the middle of some pretty spectacular schemes.

Gary Oldman headlines the series as Jackson Lamb, the curmudgeon boss of Slough House and he is joined by the likes of Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas and Olivia Cooke in the cast. Oldman was recently recognised by the Golden Globes for his performance in the show with a nomination for Best Actor for Drama TV Series. Oldman is competing against the lads from Succession and Pedro Pascal for The Last Of Us as well as The Crown’s Dominic West.

Season one of Slow Horses was directed by One Life director James Hawes while Jeremy Lovering and Saul Metzstein helmed season two and three, respectively. Season four will be directed by Adam Randall and we’re still waiting for news on who will helm season five.

According to the press release, in season five, “everyone is suspicious when resident tech nerd Roddy Ho has a glamorous new girlfriend, but when a series of increasingly bizarre events occur across the city, it falls to the Slow Horses to work out how everything is connected. After all, Jackson Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, ‘London Rules’ should always apply.”

Season four doesn’t have a release date yet and neither does season 5. Season one premiered in spring 2022 and was followed by season two in the same year, but there was nearly a year’s gap between seasons two and three. We do know that season four filmed earlier this year, so if we’re lucky, we’ll get it earlier rather than later, but Apple might want to space out their releases and leave it for next winter.

We’ll update you when we know more on the next two series of Slow Horses
