A film based on 2000s hit TV show 24 is in the works at 20th Century Studios as confirmed by Brian Grazer.
Back in 2002, was there anything better than tuning in to a TV show where Kiefer Sutherland chased bad guys over the course of 24 hours? Probably, but it was still such a treat to watch 24 each week.
Variety now reports that a film based on 24 is in the works over at 20th Century Studios. Imagine Entertainment co-founder Brian Grazer confirmed the project during an appearance on MSNBC’s Squawk Box in June, but the news have only now been picked up.
“Imagine has always played in that zone where there is that high probability chance that it will be successful in movie theaters. It’s great for us, because we’ve built, over 30 years, over 100 different products and brands, whether it’s ‘Backdraft,’ which I’m now going to do today with Glen Powell, or whether it’s ’24,’ a movie that we’re going to do in a very interesting way with Disney and Fox,” Grazer said.
We reported earlier this week that a sequel to Backdraft was also in the works, with Glen Powell eyed to potentially star.
24 starred Sutherland as Jack Bauer, a government agent working for the fictional CTU (standing for Counter Terrorism Unit) and each season portrayed 24 chaotic hours in Bauer’s life as he raced to save the world or at least the United States from terrorists.
The series ran for 9 seasons from 2001 to 2014 and also spawned a TV movie 24: Redemption in 2008 as well as a limited series, 24: Live Another Day, in 2014. The series returned once more for a spin-off, 24: Legacy.
It’s unclear whether Sutherland will return for the 24 movie or what the plot would entail. It seems that the project is only in early development so once we know more, we’ll make sure to keep you updated.
