Update: Statham action sequel The Beekeeper 2 is almost exactly a year away from its release according to Deadline.

The follow-up to director David Ayer’s unexpected 2024 hit is currently filming, and was previously snapped up by Amazon MGM in a deal worth a reported $50m. That’s the equivalent of… many jars of honey.

The Beekeeper 2 will now appear in US cinemas on the 15th January 2027. With any luck, the UK cinema release won’t be too far behind. Timo Tjahjanto replaces Ayer as director this time around, with Jeremy Irons and Statham returning for more madcap thriller mayhem. We’re rather looking forward to it.

Our original story follows…

2nd October 2025: Comfortably one of the most anticipated titles in my house is The Beekeeper 2, the sequel to the Jason Statham-headlined action thriller of 2024. In the original, you might recall, Statham tended to his hive and shot people. Under the eye of director David Ayer, it was a ridiculous amount of fun, and clearly set the scene for further adventures. And further adventures are exactly what we’re going to get.

Jason ‘The’ Statham returns in the lead role, with more honey to make, and more people to assassinate. It’d already been confirmed that further returnees include Jeremy Irons, Jemma Redgrave, Emmy Raver-Lampman and Bobby Naderi.

In terms of fresh personnel, there’s a change behind the camera. David Ayer has moved on, and Timo Tjahjanto – last seen directing Nobody 2 – is calling the shots this time. He’s working from a script by Kurt Wimmer, who wrote the non-Oscar-nominated original (scandalous).

In terms of fresh additions to the ensemble, we’re now also getting roles for Pom Klementieff and Adam Copeland, although exactly what they’re up to is being kept heavily under wraps.

Filming is expected to get underway imminently, and we’d imagine that points to an early 2027 release. The original helped itself to $162m of money in a start of year release slot, and thus it’s a fair bet that the same strategy will be employed again.

Speaking personally, I’d be very happy to get one of these films every year if they keep the same tone as the original. A far departure from the straighter and duller A Working Man that landed earlier this year, there’s a sense of fun and WTF about The Beekeeper that makes it, for me, The Statham’s finest work in years.

Although I’d still very much like that Spy sequel please, if he could fit that in…
