A biopic of legendary rapper Snoop Dogg is on the way, and here are the first details of the project.
From Straight Outta Compton and Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ to the semi-fictionalized account of Eminem’s story in 8 Mile, there is a lot of cinematic mileage in the lives of rappers.
Now, rapper Snoop Dogg is bringing his story to the screen for Universal Pictures. The as yet unnamed film will tell the story of how Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. became Snoop Dogg via collaborations with Dr Dre amongst others.
No casting has yet been announced, but Allen Hughes, who is currently working on a five part documentary about rapper Tupac Shapur is set to direct from a screenplay by Black Panther co-writer Joe Robert Cole. Snoop Dogg will produce through his company Death Row Pictures, with Universal Pictures also on board. Universal are currently developing biopics of Madonna and Cher with the blessing and full involvement of both artists.
The film is expected to begin production soon, we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
