Sony pushes two of its upcoming releases back by several months, with Kraven The Hunter receiving its second substantial delay.

Sony has announced a couple of delays to two of its biggest upcoming titles.

Kraven The Hunter, the latest film in Sony’s series of Spider-Man spin-off films, has been pushed back by around four months, from August all the way back to December. This marks the second delay for the superhero movie which was originally supposed to release at the tail end of last year before being delayed until August. This second delay now means it has effectively been pushed back by a full year.

According to Deadline, the new release date means Kraven will be able to secure plenty of IMAX and other premium format screens. Whether that’s the reason for the delay, though, the story doesn’t mention.

Given the lamentable reception to Madame Web – Sony’s last film in this series – it could be argued that moving Kraven The Hunter as far away as possible from that might be a wise move, with the acquisition of premium format screens being an added bonus. The film has become a very important release for Sony, as we wrote about here.

While Kraven will go up against Warner Bros’ animated take on Lord Of The Rings: The War Of Rohirrim, it currently looks like being the only major R-rated film to release in the holiday window, offering a degree of counter-programming to the next Avatar sequel.

Sony’s other major delay is The Karate Kid which has been pushed from December to May 2025. This means that the next theatrical installment in the long-running series will now arrive in the wake of spin-off series Cobra Kai's conclusion.

The new movie will feature Ralph Macchio alongside Jackie Chan, uniting the stars of the two different versions of The Karate Kid.

Whether the movie will also bring in characters or storylines from Netflix’s small-screen spin-off, Cobra Kai, remains to be seen but with the film looking like it might link together every corner of The Karate Kid universe, it feels fitting that the movie will arrive last of all.

Should this domino effect continue and impact more films, we’ll let you know.
