Five free channels of movies are launching under one umbrella network, courtesy of Sony.
Honestly, we go on holiday for a week, and while our back is turned, Sony goes and relaunches its collection of movie channels into one network. What’s more, rather than asking you for a monthly sum a la Sky, it’s all free and advertiser funded.
The new network, that will include up to five channels, launches in Britain on September 10th. They’ll all be available on Freeview, Freesat, Sky and Virgin Media. What’s more, it’s a refreshing antidote to stories about big companies launching their own streaming services. Sony is keeping things a little more traditional.
The five channels that form the network are as follows (although for obvious reasons, one of them only runs in the last few months of each year)….
Sony Movies – All the best movies from Hollywood’s biggest film studios
Sony Movies Action – The perfect channel for thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies
Sony Movies Christmas – Delivering festive cheer every day from September
Sony Movies Classic – The best loved films from the golden age of cinema (coming Jan 2020)
Sony Channel – A celebration of iconic television and timeless entertainment
Okay, that list was copied from the press release, but a few bits and bobs in there. Firstly, Sony Channel is actually a rebrand of the existing True Entertainment channel. It’ll also have regular telly shows on it too.
But note that Sony Movies Classic channel, that’s coming early next year. Already, we’re promised lots of big titles from the Columbia Pictures library, and we look forward to more details on that as and when they’re available.
Everything else is launching next month. That Christmas channel included…
