Lost showrunner Carlton Cuse, along with his son Nick, are working on a new Star Wars series for Disney/Lucasfilm, it’s been announced.
After a lengthy wait, Andor season 2 has begun streaming in certain territories (the UK gets it on the 23rd April). Meanwhile, Lucasfilm appears to be planning other small screen adventures in the Star Wars franchise.
Several outlets – including Variety – are reporting that Carlton Cuse, perhaps best known as the showrunner of hit ABC series Lost, is currently in the early stages of developing a new Star Wars TV series. Cuse is said to be making the show with his son Nick, writer on the likes of the 2019 Watchmen series or Masters Of The Air.
Besides that, absolutely nothing is known about what the Cuses are working on. This means we’ll have to write about some other semi-related things in order to make this news story look a bit more substantial.
How about this: Lost, the mystery TV series that first began airing in 2004, became something of a proving ground for Star Wars-related talent. Its co-creator, JJ Abrams, later went on to direct 2015’s The Force Awakens and 2019’s The Rise Of Skywalker. Lost composer Michael Giacchino wrote the music for 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Damon Lindelof, another Lost co-creator, was co-writing a Star Wars movie at one stage, but revealed in 2023 that he was “asked to leave” the project.

That film, set to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, was then taken over by Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight, but then he made a quiet departure in 2024 after handing in several drafts of a script. The screenwriting is now being handled by director and writer George Nolfi.
Such behind the scenes comings and goings are part of what has been a difficult few years for Lucasfilm. Several film and TV projects have been either shelved or left in limbo, with such filmmakers as Rian Johnson, Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkins all attached to productions whose statuses are largely unknown.
This years Star Wars Celebration suggested that Lucasfilm has steadied the ship somewhat, though. The Mandalorian And Grogu is due in cinemas next May, while director Shawn Levy is currently working on Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling. The latter’s scheduled for May 2027. Where will the Cuse-derived Star Wars series fit into the grander canon? Will it be light and frothily entertaining, like Disney+ series Skeleton Crew, or grimly political, like Andor?
For now, we can only speculate. Disney/Lucasfilm currently has Ahsoka season two in development. We’ll let you know when we hear more on whatever it is the Lost chaps are working on.
