Steve McQueen’s World War II epic Blitz lands in November, and here’s the first trailer for the film right here.
Just yesterday we reported that Steve McQueen could be heading to the small screen, collaborating with Amazon Studios on a TV series with something of a dystopian bent. While we wouldn’t be opposed to seeing McQueen tackle long-form storytelling, we’re first looking forward to what is surely his most commercial feature film, the epic World War II drama, Blitz.
As the title suggests, the action will be set amid the horrendous bombings that rained down on London (and other British cities) throughout World War II.
The synopsis for the film reads as such:
Blitz follows the epic journey of George (Elliott Heffernan), a 9-year-old boy in World War II London whose mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) sends him to safety in the English countryside. George, defiant and determined to return home to Rita and his grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller) in East London, ensues on an adventure, only to find himself in immense peril, while a distraught Rita searches for her missing son.
The film will be opening the BFI London Film Festival on 9th October before appearing in select cinemas at the beginning of November. Then, it will head to streaming streaming on AppleTV+ from 22nd November.
For those of you that are planning on seeing it in the cinema, let’s just hope that Apple’s wavering commitment to theatrical releases doesn’t impact your chances of seeing it on the biggest screen possible.
The cast for this one is impressive, featuring Saoirse Ronan, Elliott Heffernan, Harris Dickinson, Benjamin Clementine, Kathy Burke, Paul Weller, Stephen Graham, Leigh Gill, Mica Ricketts, CJ Beckford, Alex Jennings, Joshua McGuire, Hayley Squires, Erin Kellyman, and Sally Messham.
