In The Lost Lands, from Paul W S Anderson, is heading to cinemas in 2025, based on the short story by George R R Martin.
The first new film from director Paul W S Anderson since his videogame adaptation Monster Hunter in 2020 (for which we chatted to him for a podcast special, here) is In The Lost Lands.
It’s an adaptation of a George R R Martin story, with the project first announced back in 2021. Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista signed up to appear at that stage too, and the movie is now in post-production.
Itās flown a bit under the radar, but it’s back in the news (via Deadline) now as the US rights for the movie have just been snapped up. Vertical has acquired the film in the States, and has confirmed a cinema release for it as well. We wait to see who’s acquiring it in the UK.
We do know a little more about the film, though. The script for it has been written by Constantin Werner, after he and Anderson developed the screen story from Martin’s short tale. Constantin Film backed In The Lost Lands in the first instance, and Anderson has dropped a word or two as part of the announcement of the Vertical deal.
Heās quoted as saying that, “With In The Lost Lands, we’ve created a movie with a completely unique visual style and storytelling that uses cutting-edge technology to bring the story to life like never before. So, it was always important to me that it be seen on the big screen. That’s why I couldn’t be more thrilled that Vertical is bringing In the Lost Lands to American theaters [sic].”
The story sees Milla Jovovich as a sorceress sent to the Lost Lands by a queen. There, she joins forces with Boyce (not Boycie, Only Fools & Horses fans – that’d be a very different film), who’s played by Dave Bautista. Demons and assorted foes then stand in their way.
News on a firmer release date as we get it. For now, expect In The Lost Lands at some point in 2025.
