Potentially one of the final physical media releases to bear the Warner Bros 100th anniversary celebration logo, Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of Alice Walker’s book The Color Purple is on its way to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray for the end of the year. It comes ahead of the cinematic release of a new adaptation of Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, with Spielberg’s take on the material dating back to 1985. The new disc version will be available in the UK from December 4th 2023, and you can find more information on the release – and order a copy – right here. The film stars Danny Glover, Oprah Winfrey, Margaret Avery, Adolph Caesar, Rae Dawn Chong and Akousa Busia. Earning 11 Oscar nominations on its original release, the official synopsis reads as follows…
Steven Spielbergās 1985 cinematic adaptation of Alice Walkerās Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Color Purple brings the unforgettable story and characters to life with a talented cast. Whoopi Goldberg delivers a remarkable debut performance as Celie, who defies cruelty with love and finds joy in a closed-off world.
The release come with both a 4K disc and a Blu-ray in the box, which suggests that previously published extra features will be carried over. We’re not expecting any new material to be added, in line with how Warner Bros catalogue releases have primarily gone this year. The Color Purple is available to order now, and there’s also a Steelbook edition, that you can find more information on here.Read more: The Fabelmans and Steven Spielbergās autobiographical filmmaking
