If you had 2001’s The Animal in a game of sequel bingo, then it’d be fair to say you’ve just won yourself a prize.

Those of you holding out hope to a film that you assume the rest of the world has forgotten, there may just be a glimmer of light for you this morning. For a comedy film 21 years old, starring Rob Schneider, is set to get an out of nowhere follow-up.

We must have missed the fan petitions and the online clamour, but there’s only so much of the internet we can expected to keep an eye on. How were we supposed to know that The Animal 2 – not even Deuce Bigalow 3 – was something people were taking meetings about?

Yet here we are, chums.

Schneider is set to return to the role of Marvin Mange, a man who gets animal parts following a near-fatal injury. Those animal parts lead to him behaving differently, and oh-my-god they really are doing another one.

Patricia Schneider, Rob Schneider and Jamie Lissow have penned the script for this one, and the plan is for Schneider R to direct this one himself as well.

Oddly, it won’t be going to cinemas, and instead has been ordered for Fox’s Tubi platform in the US. There’s one potential stumbling block, in that the rights have to be cleared with original production company Revolution.

Filming is set to begin next year, and who knows? It might end up released next year too. We’ll keep you posted. And that long lost sequel you always dreamed of? Well, there’s hope for us all…
