Despite Marvel’s latest troubles, Thor 5 is reportedly pressing on, but Taika Waititi won’t be returning to helm the film.
Taika Waititi has officially ruled himself out of directing another Thor sequel. After Thor: The Dark World, which is commonly considered one of the worst Marvel films, Waititi brought the individual superhero franchise back from the dead with the delightfully colourful and weird Thor: Ragnarok.
Last year saw the release of Thor: Love And Thunder, which garnered a mostly positive, but a little muted reception. Speaking to Business Insider about his new film Next Goal Wins, Waititi put an end to the rumours of whether or not Marvel’s making another Thor film.
āI wouldnāt know if thatās accurate,ā Waititi told Business Insider. āI know that I wonāt be involved.ā
Well, that’s that then.
āIām going to concentrate on these other films that Iāve signed on for,ā he adds.
Waititi’s next film will be a Kazuo Ishiguro adaptation, Klara And The Sun, which is still years away from debuting on the big screen and Waititi noted that Marvel are probably keen to make another Thor film a little quicker than that.
Waititi is also working on an adaptation on Alejando Jodorowsky’s The Incal and a Star Wars film.
āItās still marinating. Iāve been writing it,ā Waititi said of his Star Wars film of which we still know very little about.
Thankfully, there are no hard feelings between Waititi and Marvel, despite the former being unavailable to make another film for the megastudio, at least for a while.
āI would never feel like they are cheating on me,ā Waititi laughed. āWeāre in an open relationship, and itās like if they want to see other people, Iām happy for that. Iād still get back into bed with them one day.ā
There you have it, folks. Taika Waititi is in an open relationship with Marvel Studios. Thatās a sentence I didnāt think Iād ever have to type.
