Carry On, an Amblin/Netflix co-production, will star Taron Egerton – Black Adam's Jaume Collet-Serra directs. Taron Egerton’s star is high at the moment, and whilst the actor continues to publicly angle for the role of Wolverine in the Marvel Studios reboot of the X-Men series, he continues to attach himself to a range of interesting projects. The latest of these is Carry On, a thriller that has been announced by Netflix and will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Egerton is currently receiving plaudits aplenty for his work in Apple’s prison thriller miniseries, Black Bird, whilst Collet-Serra is no slouch in this genre either, with 2016’s shark versus surfer standoff The Shallows making a case for one of the best thrillers to feature a great white since Jaws first started munching on swimmers. Amblin are co-producing with Netflix and it will be intriguing to see how this one plays out, with Netflix looking to improve the quality of its output. The streaming giant often finds itself in a position with plenty of talent at its disposal, but doesn’t always manage to connect all of that potential in ways that land squarely with audiences. Recent releases The Gray Man and Spiderhead come to mind as two recent film releases with a great deal of talent both in front and behind the camera, that haven’t really set the world alight in terms of critical response. Not much else is known about the project at this point, apart from an official logline, via Deadline: “The thriller centres on Ethan Kopek, a young TSA agent who gets blackmailed by a mysterious traveler to let a dangerous package slip through security and onto a Christmas Day flight.” We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it, but with Collet-Serra reportedly already signed up to a sequel to Jungle Cruise, his 2021 Disney star vehicle, this one could be some time away. — Thank you for visiting! If you’d like to support our attempts to make a non-clickbaity movie website: Follow Film Stories on Twitter here, and on Facebook here.
