Seth MacFarlane’s Ted makes the leap to the small screen in January, here’s the teaser trailer for the TV show.

Ted was Seth MacFarlane's feature directorial debut, and heck, did it make an impact.

Released in 2012, it contained all the profane, puckish humour Macfarlane honed in his years showrunning Family Guy. The plot followed Mark Wahlberg as John, an ageing adolescent who spends his time drinking and getting high with the titular Ted, a sentient stuffed toy, while neglecting his relationship with Mila Kunis’ Lori.

The sequel arrived in 2015, and didn’t quite hit the same mark. But still: it make a good chunk of money, and that opened the door for a third Ted movie. Eight years on, though, and there’s no sign of Ted 3. Instead? Well, the idea has taken the television route for now.

Now, a prequel television series will follow the adventures of John and his bear in the 1980s. The synopsis for it has been released, as well as a trailer. So let’s do the synopsis first…

In this comedic prequel event series to the Ted films, it’s 1993, and Ted the bear’s (Seth MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham). Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.

In addition to voicing the title character, MacFarlane also wrote several of the scripts. Other writers include Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, Dana Gould, John Pollack and Julius Walsh.

Ted will stream on Peacock from the 11th January 2024.

Watch the trailer below. And should the show go down well? Maybe Ted 3 will be come a thing after all.
