James Gunn has confirmed that Matt Reeves is still directing The Batman Part II after rumours suggested otherwise.

We’ve been patiently waiting for The Batman Part II to begin production, but news emerged last week that Matt Reeves might have exited the project as a director. His name was still attached to the project as a screenwriter on Production Weekly, but not as a director, sparking rumours that someone else might step in.

James Gunn, the overlord of DC Studios, has now debunked that rumour, confirming that Reeves is still definitely directing the sequel.

When a fan asked Gunn directly on Threads (here via GamesRadar) whether Reeves was still in the director’s chair, Gunn simply replied “Yes. Huh?”, seemingly unaware of the news that went around last week.

The Batman Part II, originally announced in 2022, has had a bumpy ride so far, with production dates moving further and further to the future. Filming on the sequel is finally scheduled to start later this year, with the film premiering on 1st October 2027.

The film will bring Robert Pattinson back as the caped crusader, with Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell and Andy Serkis also expected to return as Jim Gordon, The Penguin and Pennyworth.

Meanwhile, Gunn is currently working on the final cut of Superman, his highly anticipated reboot of the Superman franchise. David Corenswet will be wearing the iconic red and blue suit and the latest footage teases Superman’s Fortress Of Solitude.
