Following its delayed release, the promotional campaign for the Jeff Nichols’ film The Bikeriders now begins anew.

One of the films very much on our summer 2024 radar is Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders.

It’s a promising film too for lots of reasons: it’s a new film from the director of the excellent Mud and the equally excellent Take Shelter; there’s a very exciting and talented ensemble cast, and who doesn’t enjoy watching famous guys atop motorbikes brood moodily in vintage leather jackets?

The film’s impressive ensemble is made up of Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Michael Shannon. Of course, the movie was originally set to release on December 1st in the US until Disney pulled the plug on its distribution deal, seemingly because it wasn’t happy with the performance of another non-franchise drama in the form of Gareth Edwards’ The Creator.

That left The Bikeriders in a state of limbo for a spell, before Focus Features rode in and saved the day. A new release date has been set for June of next year, in the US at least. Universal Pictures will release the film on 21 June in the UK.

The story is set ‘in the 1960s and follows Kathy, a strong-willed member of the Vandals who is married to a wild, reckless bike rider named Benny. She recounts the club’s evolution over the course of a decade from a group of local outsiders led by the strong Johnny to something more dangerous and sinister.’

Focus now face the task of building up momentum for the film all over again, and have begun the process by releasing a new trailer which you can see below.

We’ll leave you with the synopsis for the movie…

The Bikeriders, starring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy and Norman Reedus, follows the rise of a midwestern motorcycle club, the Vandals. Seen through the lives of its members, the club evolves over the course of a decade from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life.
