Heading to TNT Sports, we’re bringing you the new trailer for The Club That George Built, a brand new documentary from our friends at whynow.
If you’re a football fan, there’s a documentary out tomorrow that might interest you. If you’re not a football fan, but are a fan of documentaries and inspiring stories, it might interest you too.
The Club That George Built debuts on TNT Sports on 1st October at 22.30 and it’s made by the good people at whynow. The film tells the rather incredible story of George Dowell, a former player at Worthing FC, who was paralysed from the neck down as a result of a car accident. Dowell went on to buy the club in 2015 with the ambitious goal of transforming the club into a National League team.
Take a look at the trailer:
The documentary film not only charts Dowell’s work with the club, but provides a first-hand look at living with a disability. Slight spoiler here, but Dowell’s efforts take Worthing FC through the leagues and the documentary captures the team’s transformation up close.
There’s a lot of similarities with Disney+’s excellent Welcome To Wrexham, which tracks Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s efforts to raise Welsh football club Wrexham FC from obscurity to a league-winning team. Much like that TV show, The Club That George Built will appeal to both football fans and us regular folk who still don’t understand what “offside” means.
The Club That George Built is certainly a documentary worth your time. Catch it on TNT Sports and Discovery+ from 1st October.
