James Wan might be jumping from the world of Aquaman to The Creature From The Black Lagoon: more here.
Horror director James Wan could be turning his attentions to one of the genre’s classic entries for his next project: a remake of The Creature From The Black Lagoon.
Daniel Richtman is reporting (via World Of Reel) that Wan ‘is set to direct The Creature From The Black Lagoon for Universal. This is a remake of the 1954 classic which tackled a strange prehistoric beast lurking in the depths of the Amazonian jungle and the group of scientists who try to capture the animal to bring it back to civilization for study.’
James Wan is considered to be one of the premier names in horror, having found success in the genre on multiple occasions and in many different forms, including Saw, The Conjuring and Insidious. Whether it’s torture porn, supernatural thrills or whatever you might classify Insidious as, Wan has found success in horror again and again, which led to him being tempted over to Universal back in 2020.
That of course gives the filmmaker the whole stable of Universal’s monsters to play with, and it looks like Wan has made his choice. The original report claims that ‘Will Beall, who penned Wan’s Aquaman, is writing the screenplay.’
The outlet also states ‘the film will most likely be part of Universal’s “Monsterverse” which already includes The Invisible Man and the upcoming Wolfman.’ That’s not a connected Monsterverse as far as we’re aware and we hope that Wan’s film is a standalone project like the other two are (as far as we know).
Wan is believed to be making Call Of Cthulhu at some point too, but judging from this report, it won’t be his next project. We’ll bring you more on The Creature From The Black Lagoon as we hear it.
