Denzel Washington will return as Robert McCall in The Equalizer 3, though Antoine Fuquaās involvement is still yet to be confirmed.
Several years since its launch, 2014ās The Equalizer remains just as watchable as when it first released. Whilst not quite its, ahem, āequalā, 2018ās The Equalizer 2 wasnāt half-bad either. A trilogy-closer seemed inevitable, but things were quiet for quite some time until January of this year when star Denzel Washington, whilst on the press rounds for The Tragedy of Macbeth, revealed that another film was in the works. Not only that, but itās currently due a cinema release in September 2023.
So, fresh from playing one rather violent Mac, Washington will return to portray another. This time itās Robert McCall, a vigilante who uses his fists (and all kinds of other stuff too) to right wrongs. The two films in the series so far have followed McCall, a former marine and DIA operative who uses his unique and fearsome skills set to operate as an undercover operative for justice.
However, we donāt yet know if the third film in the series will be directed by Antoine Fuqua, who the actor previously worked with on Training Day and both of The Equalizer films. Fuqua’s involvement isn’t yet confirmed, and itās also unclear as to whether Richard Wenk, who penned the first two movies, has scripted the third. We do know that the film will be getting an IMAX release though.
As we hear more, including the confirmation of whoāll be in the directorās chair, you can be sure we’ll let you know.
