Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson headline The Great Escaper, which arrives on disc in the UK this December.

Proving to be something of a critical and commercial hit at the start of the autumn is The Great Escaper, a movie that we knew was the final film work of Glenda Jackson. We’ve since learned too that it’s the final film work of Michael Caine as well, who was so happy with the response to the movie, he’s chosen to end his acting career with it.

Caine and Jackson take the lead roles in the movie, which retraces the true story of Bernand Jordan, who in 2014 made headlines around the world when he hot-footed it from his care home to France to join a ceremony saluting the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

Directed by Oliver Parker, unsurprisingly the film is being fast-tracked to a DVD and Blu-ray release to take advantage of the Christmas market.

A few dates for your diary if you’re interested in such things (the release of The Great Escaper, not Christmas. We figure you know when that is).

First up will be the premium video on demand release, whereby you can pay a bit of a sum and download the movie via the usual purchasing services. That’s landing on November 6th, days after this story is written.

The physical media release meanwhile has been confirmed in the UK for December 11th, and the listing for it can be found here.

There are going to be extra features on both the DVD and Blu-ray versions of the film, it’s been confirmed. And here’s the list that we’ve been sent…

· Making Of Featurette

 · Love Story Featurette

 · War Featurette

 · Original Theatrical Trailer

 · Feature Audio Description

No idea on run times or anything for those, just that they exist, and you’ll find them on the disc.

The film is up for preorder now, and you can purchase a copy for yourself right here.
