The story of Roy Larner is being told in The Lion Of London Bridge, and a crowdfunding campaign is now underway for the film.
Back in February 2021, author and screenwriter Dougie Brimson (Green Street) was revealed to have set up Red Bus Movies, a company wanting to tell UK working class stories. Brimson, a veteran of the armed forces, has now got another project on the launchpad, and needs a bit of help with the next step.
Redbus is set to make The Lion Of London Bridge, a film that tells the story of Roy Larner. Back in 2017, during the Borough Market Attack, Larner garnered headlines for fighting off three terrorists wielding machetes (alerting them to the fact that he’s a Millwall football fan has he did so).
Larner sustained life-threatening injuries during the attack, and his work was said to have saved up to 30 lives. Yet as Dougie Brimson’s script is set to explore, he neither received the George Medal for his bravery, nor financial recompense for his many injuries.
Red Bus first announced the movie, The Lion Of London Bridge, last week, and attracted a distribution offer from America. But currently, Brimson and his team are fundraising the script development part of the project. Roy Larner is attached as a script consultant, and Redbus is looking to raise £10,000 for the development work, and to set the movie up. They’re going this way to try and get the movie moving that bit quicker too.

Leo Gregory, of Green Street, has already been cast as Larner in the movie. Further details of the production will follow in due course. For the minute, it’s trying to get that first tranche of money to get the film accelerated.
