Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchantās The Office has been remade once again, this time in Australia. Hereās the trailer.
Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchantās original version of The Office launched on the BBC in 2001. It introduced the world to boss from hell David Brent (Gervais) as he attempted to look good in front of the cameras documenting his workplace, paper merchants Wernham Hogg, alongside staff including Tim (Martin Freeman) Gareth (Mackenzie Crook) and Dawn (Lucy Davis).
All while trying to stay onside with bullying best mate Chris Finch (Ralph Ineson) and, in the second series, his new boss from the Swindon branch, Neil (Patrick Baladi).
Gervais and Merchant took cringe comedy to the extreme, with Brent becoming a byword for social awkwardness and inappropriate behaviour.
Since then, there have been 13 international versions, with Greg Danielsā American version starring Steve Carrell being far and away the most successful, running for nine seasons.
The 14 version comes from Australia, and is once again called The Office.
The synopsis reads as follows:
Hannah Howard is the managing director of Flinley Craddick. When she gets news that her branch will be shut down to work remotely, she goes into survival mode, making promises she canāt keep in order to keep her āwork familyā together.
Stand up comedian Felicity Ward stars as Howard, alongside Lizze (Edith Poor playing the Dwight/Gareth role); sales rep Nick (Steen Raskopoulos playing the Tim/Jim role) and Greta (Shari Sebbens in the Pam/Dawn role). The cast also includes Josh Thomson, Jonny Brugh, Susan Ling Young, Raj Labade, Lucy Schmidt, Zoe Terakes, Pallavi Sharda, Claude Jabbour and Jason Perini. Guest stars include Susie Youssef, Justin Rosniiak, Carlo Ritchie, Rick Donald and Chris Bunton.
It was developed for Australia by writers Julie De Fina and Jackie van Beek, the show was co-produced with BBC Studios Australia & New Zealand.
