The Rings Of Power, Prime Video’s The Lord Of The Rings prequel series, has officially been renewed for season 3. More on the new season below.
HBO has been keeping us on our toes for a few months now when it comes to The Rings Of Power. Season 2 of Prime Video’s popular The Lord Of The Rings prequel show concluded in October and there has been no word, no whispers or even smoke signals about another season. Considering the season 1 premiere was the biggest TV premiere of any Prime Video show and season 2 amassed impressive viewership numbers, season 3 seemed like a no-brainer.
Well, it’s now official that The Rings Of Power season 3 is on the way. Filming will take place at Shepperton Studios in the UK this spring, but there’s no word when us peasants will be able to return to Middle-earth via Prime Video.
“The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power continues to captivate audiences worldwide, and we’re thrilled that a third season is underway. The creative team has an extraordinary vision of what’s to come with stories that have left us enchanted and enthralled,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios. “We look forward to continuing this epic journey, for our global customers, delving even deeper into the legendary tales that shaped Middle-earth.”
The new season will be directed by Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri, and Stefan Schwartz. Brändström and Hamri have already worked extensively on The Rings Of Power, but Schwartz is coming in as new blood.
The Hollywood Reporter also reports that there will be a major time jump between season 2, which concluded last October, and the new season. THR also shared a logline for the new season:
Jumping forward several years from the events of season 2, season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.
