SXSW festival success The Surrogate gets a UK release this July – and here’s the new trailer for the movie too.

One of the successes of last year’s South By Southwest (SXSW) film festival was Jeremy Hersh’s drama The Surrogate. Starring Jasmine Batchelor, it tells the story of a 29-year old woman who agrees to be the surrogate and egg donor for her pair of best friends. Said friends played by Chris Perfetti and Sullivan Jones.

Come the 12 week scan though, and something unexpected is detected, which sets up a quiet, unfussy drama with a series of issues at its core. Saying more at this stage would spoil the film, save for the fact that it’s been pretty acclaimed following its screenings around the world.

The Surrogate has also been picked up for UK release by Studio Soho Distribution, and it’s announced a release date over here of Friday July 9th.

What’s more, we’ve got a UK trailer too. Here’s a taste as to what’s in store.

We’ll leave you for now with the synopsis…

A sensitive insight into the complex issues surrounding surrogacy, THE SURROGATE follows Jess Harris (Jasmine Batchelor, “The Good Fight”), a 29-year-old web designer, who is excited to be the surrogate and egg-donor for her best friend Josh (Chris Perfetti, “Looking”) and his husband Aaron (Sullivan Jones, “Halston”, “Slave Play”). Twelve weeks into the pregnancy, a prenatal test comes back with unexpected results that pose a moral dilemma. As they all consider the best course of action, the relationship between the three friends is put to the test.
