Doctor Who series 2, with Ncuti Gatwa in the lead, will debut in April on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, itā€™s been revealed.

Amidst the assorted tittle tattle and Doctor Who rumours of the last week or two, there’s the small matter of a fresh run for the show to talk about as well. Ncuti Gatwa’s second season at the controls of the TARDIS – series 2, season 15 or series 41 if we’re really going for it – is heading to BBC One and iPlayer from 12th April 2025.

And hereā€™s the first trailer!

This will begin a new eight episode run of the show, that’s long been in post-production. It was coming to the end of filming even as the last series was being screened, and so it’s a little while since Ncuti Gatwa has waved his sonic screwdriver around. The BBC has slowly been releasing more details of the show, which has once again been funded in part by Disney+, that has the streaming rights everywhere but the UK.

There is still a sense that this is an important series for the show. We’re a long, long way from the wilderness years of Doctor Who, but there has been the admission that a decision on another series of the show isn’t being made until series 2 has screened. Which indicates we should know by the summer if there’s going to be more episodes under the current BBC and Disney deal.

A spin-off, The War Between The Land And The Sea, has also been shot, and that too will be arriving later this year. We don’t have a transmission date for it yet, though.

Back to Doctor Who though. The series is headlined by Gatwa, of course, and on his travels this time are Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. Russell T Davies is the showrunner, and more details are expected to land soon..
