Russell T Davies is bringing his new LGBTQ+ drama Tip Toe to Channel Four, following Itā€™s A Sin, Cucumber and more.

When he’s not juggling the demands of Doctor Who, Russell T Davies has been busy penning his new original drama for Channel Four, Tip Toe. The last time he collaborated with the channel, we got It’s A Sin. Previously, we’ve had the hugely underappreciated Cucumber. This time, he’s penned  contemporary LGBTQ+ piece, that’s going to play over five episodes.

It reunites him with director Peter Hoar and executive producer Nicola Shindler. As per the official announcement of the show, “Davies will explore the most corrosive forces facing the LGBTQ+ community today, examining the danger as prejudice creeps back into our lives. Problems we thought were long-gone are returning, toughened and weaponised, until no one knows truth from lies any more.”

The central characters are Leo and Clive, and the show is set in the Manchester area. They’re going to be placed into the middle of today’s more radicalised work, and matters of safety, home life and more are going to be in the crosshairs of the show.

Russell T Davies says of the show that “it’s my honour to combine my old home, Channel 4, with my second home, Canal Street. This is a show I had to write because the world is getting stranger, tougher and darker, and frankly, the fight is on.”

Casting hasn’t been announced as of yet, but presumably if the show is being announced, then it means production is likely to be this year.

In the meantime, the new series of Doctor Who is expected in the spring, and then we wait to see if Disney+ will put up the money for a further season of the show. It feels a bit touch and go there, but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
