Part 1 of the DLC promised in the Kickstarter campaign for The Wonderful 101: Remastered finally arrives, with part 2 due next week.
Three years after the release of The Wonderful 101: Remastered on Switch, PS4 and PC ā and some ten years after the original game debuted on the Wii U ā PlatinumGames has updated this joyously chaotic action game with some new DLC.
Two DLC installments were offered as stretch goals in the Kickstarter campaign for The Wonderful 101: Remastered back in March 2020, which raised more than ¥235 million. Now, those promised bits of DLC have finally arrived, with the first part out today, and the second due on 26th May.
The DLC is entitled The Wonderful One: After School Hero, and it takes a completely different approach from the main game. Instead of controlling a band of heroes in a 3D world, here youāre presented with a 2D side-scroller in which you control a single hero: Luka, the titular After-School Hero.
āAs the latest member of the CENTINELS, new recruit Luka delivers remarkable achievements,ā says the PlatinumGames announcement. āWhat challenges did he need to overcome to become the prestigious Wonder Goggles? This is a story of love, battle, and growth. Experience Luka’s journey to becoming a full-fledged hero!ā
As seen in the trailer for the new DLC, Luka can use his brilliantly named āStingy Eyeā goggles to shoot in any direction, and a selection of the other Wonderful 101 heroes can be called upon to deliver powerful, screen-clearing attacks. It reminds us a little of the excellent Viewtiful Joe, which was also directed by Hideki Kamiya, although here youāre using lasers rather than fists and feet.
Owners of The Wonderful 101: Remastered can download part 1 of The Wonderful One: After School Hero for free right now, with part 2 dropping in a weekās time. Although, sadly, it wonāt be coming to the much-missed Wii U, which saw its eShop shuttered earlier this year.
