Greenland director Ric Roman Waugh is now directing a new, untitled Jason Statham action thriller, with filming underway in the UK and Ireland.

Last May, we heard about one of a several forthcoming projects from action specialist, Jason Statham. It didnā€™t have a title, but it did have a premise: Statham, roaming about on a Scottish island under the assumed name of Mason, and rescuing a little girl in the middle of a raging storm.

Filming was set to begin in November 2024, with the attached director being Baltasar Kormakur, perhaps best known for his somewhat tame survival movie, Everest.

As of February 2025, things appear to have changed somewhat. Filming did not get underway in 2024. Kormakur is out and a new director is in: step forward Ric Roman Waugh, who directed Gerard Butler in the beefy end-of-the-world thriller, Greenland. Under his stewardship, the production is now due to get underway in the UK and Ireland, with the rest of the cast having been announced.

The thriller is being produced by Black Bear, the production company behind the hit horror thriller Longlegs and the upcoming canine serial killer opus, Bad Boy. The company shopped the film around at last yearā€™s market at the Cannes Film Festival, introduced the film to the market in Cannes last year, and shares ownership of its US rights a firm called Range Select. Itā€™s a knotty world, the movie business.

Joining Statham on his windy-sounding adventure are Bill Nighy, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays and young actor Bodhi Rae Breathnach, the latter weā€™re guessing will appear as the girl Statham will rescue from a storm. Deadline has the exclusive on the matter, and adds that Statham will ā€œplay a man pulled towards the ghosts of his violent past,ā€ which makes us wonder whether itā€™ll go all meta and have the former diver heading to a remote island to avoid being cast in any more bloodthirsty action thrillers.

Elsewhere on Stathamā€™s docket, thereā€™s A Working Man, formerly Levonā€™s Trade ā€“ another action thriller, and his latest collaboration with director David Ayer, with whom he made The Beekeeper. Written by one Sylvester Stallone (never heard of him), itā€™s due out in March.

Ric Roman Waugh hasnā€™t been idle, either; heā€™s recently put the finishing touches to Butler-filled sequel Greenland: Migration, filmed in the UK last year. The post-apocalyptic film is due out in 2025.

Waughā€™s Statham thriller, meanwhile, is still untitled. Our choice? Rainbow Islands. Let us know yours in the comments below, dear readers.
