American Pie: Girls Rule has wrapped up filming, ahead of a 2020 release.
The story so far in the American Pie saga of movies. Following the 1999 surprise hit original, two further theatrical outings closed out what appeared to be a comedy trilogy.
Yet with the DVD market booming at the time, Universal pressed ahead with a series of direct-to-disc spin-off films, that held on to parts of the original movies – the mighty Eugene Levy, notably – but were being churned out with a quick DVD buck in mind.
Then, the original cast returned for the commercially successful American Wedding, that landed in 2012. After that, there was talk of a theatrical American Pie 5, but that ultimately petered out.
Now, over half a decade later, the franchise is being resurrected though, although we’re back in the world of straight to disc (and digital download) American Pie movies.
Specifically, we’re now getting American Pie: Girls Rule, which is being directed by Mike Elliott for a 2020 release.
The cast of this one includes Zachary Gordon, Piper Curda, Dylan Lawson, Natasha Benham, Madison Petis, Lizze Broadway and Camaron Engels. And as per this Instagram post, production has wrapped up on the movie.
