Director Todd Haynes has been talking up his next project whilst premiering his current film at Cannes.
Whenever Todd Haynes announces a new project, ears are bound to prick up and things are no different this time, especially since the filmmaker dropped the rather large bombshell that Joaquin Phoenix will be starring in the project.
Haynes is at Cannes right now and has been premiering
May December, his romantic drama featuring Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman. However, the filmmaker also revealed a couple of details about his next project, which remains untitled at the moment.
Haynes had this to say about the next film heās tackling: āThere’s another movie I want to make in early 2024. Itās a project that Joaquin Phoenix brought to me, and itās set in the 1930s. A love story between two men, based on a screenplay original, very daring. This is, I believe, his first gay role. I am very excited about this project!ā
Joaquin Phoenix has been expertly walking the tightrope these last few years between commercial success, critical praise and artistic experimentation, all of which should sum up nicely for a project with Haynes, who is enjoying his best reviews with
May December since 2015ās
Carol.
Weāre keen to see how this collaboration will play out, although we might be waiting a while for more details. Rest assured though, weāll let you know more when we hear it.
