Fans of the game may be happier with this first glimpse of the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 trailer – with more Sonic elements seemingly included.

The latest trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has sped onto screens worldwide, ahead of the film’s April launch.

With Idris Elba already announced as the voice behind Knuckles – the powerful echidna who is making his debut alongside Miles ‘Tails’ Prower – and Jim Carrey going ‘full Robotnik’ in this film with his appearance, this preview is likely to please fans of the blue hedgehog far more than the first film’s original trailer. A promo which memorably erupted in a huge backlash.

Knuckles was originally introduced into the Sonic video game series back in 1994’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as a foe, although, by 1995’s Sonic & Knuckles, he had become a member of Team Sonic.

Like the games, Knuckles it seems will be initially introduced as an antagonist, after being manipulated by Dr Robotnik. With Jim Carrey returning in that role alongside Elba, plus Ben Schwartz voicing Sonic again, we could be in for a treat.

James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Shemar Moore and Jim Carrey also star in the live-action elements of the film. Jeff Fowler will direct again. And here’s the final trailer…

And here’s the first trailer, from back in December.
