Here’s the trailer for Munich: Edge Of War, that charts the struggles of two diplomats sent to the German capital to avert the onset of World War II.
The trailer has arrived for Munich: Edge Of War, a new historical drama starring Jeremy Irons, George MacKay and Jannis Niehwöhner. The upcoming Netflix release is a period thriller set on the eve of World War II, based on the Robert Harris novel. It will be coming to Netflix on January 21st 2022.
MacKay (1917) and Jannis Niehwöhner (previously seen in Netflix’s Mute) play respective British and German diplomats, secretly sent to meet to try and avert the onset of war, before finding that their very lives are in danger. Irons will play the British prime minister, Neville Chamberlain. The meeting occurs in Munich, hence the film’s title.
Christian Schwochow (of The Crown) directs from a script by Ben Power, who adapted the Shakespearean series The Hollow Crown for the BBC. Rounding out the cast, Martin Wuttke, who had a small part in Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds as Adolf Hitler, will play the part of the German leader once again. It has also been announced that the film will receive a limited theatrical run ahead of its release on the streaming platform, with that window looking like it may open on January 7th. But we have no details as to the scale of that release as of yet.
We’ll leave you with the official synopsis and you can find the trailer below:
It is Autumn 1938 and Europe stands on the brink of war. Adolf Hitler is preparing to invade Czechoslovakia and Neville Chamberlain’s government desperately seeks a peaceful solution. With the pressure building, Hugh Legat, British civil servant, and Paul von Hartmann, German diplomat, travel to Munich for the emergency Conference. As negotiations begin, the two old friends find themselves at the centre of a web of political subterfuge and very real danger. With the whole world watching, can war be averted and, if so, at what cost?
