Unsettling British folk horror Enys Men is released next year from director Mark Jenkin, and here’s the trailer.
Bait was one of the most acclaimed films of 2019. Critic Mark Kermode for one not only called it a masterpiece, he also named the film as his favourite of the year and, in 2020, of the decade. It also won director Mark Jenkin the BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.
Now, Jenkin is back with another film with a distinctly Cornish flavour. That’d be Enys Men, and the synopsis for it reads as follows:
A wildlife volunteer on an uninhabited island off the British coast descends into a terrifying madness that challenges her grip on reality and pushes her into a living nightmare. Evoking the feeling of discovering a reel of never-before-seen celluloid unspooling in a haunted movie palace, this provocative and masterful vision of horror asserts Mark Jenkin as one of the U.K.’s most exciting and singular filmmakers
Mary Woodvine and Edward Rowe star.
Jenkin once again writes and directs from an original story he wrote with Adrian Bailey.
The film is due in UK cinemas on January 13th, and don’t be surprised it it gets a strong BAFTA run too. We’ll leave you with the trailer…
