Challengers tells the steamy story of a tennis coach, and a trailer for the movie – from Luca Guadagnino – has arrived.
Since shooting to fame in Disney Channel shows Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover, Zendaya has ploughed a path to Hollywood: as MJ with Tom Holland’s iteration of Spider-Man, a lead role in award winning drama Euphoria and as part of the ensemble of Dune and the upcoming Dune: Part Two.
She now headlines Challengers, a romantic sports drama. The synopsis reads as follows:
From visionary filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, Challengers stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court. Married to a champion on a losing streak (Mike Faist – West Side Story), Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against the washed-up Patrick (Josh O’Connor – The Crown) – his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend. As their pasts and presents collide, and tensions run high, Tashi must ask herself, what will it cost to win.
Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino helmed the film from a script by Justin Kuritzkes, which was featured on the 2021 Black List, a ranking of the best non-produced screenplays in Hollywood.
Challengers will be released in UK cinemas on the 15th September.
