Pet Sematary is getting a prequel called Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, from a story penned by Stephen King, here’s the trailer.

Pet Sematary is among the better 1980s film adaptations of Stephen King’s work. Featuring a standout performance from Herman Munster himself, Fred Gwynne, King also penned the screenplay for the film.

A sequel, Pet Sematary Two, again directed by Mary Lambert, was released to commercial and critical indifference in 1992, and a remake arrived in 2019.

Now, a prequel is on the way, courtesy of Paramount Plus. The synopsis for Pet Sematary: Bloodlines reads as follows:

The film follows a young Jud Crandall in 1969, who has dreams of leaving his hometown behind but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever keep him connected to the town. Banding together, Jud and his childhood friends must fight an ancient evil that has gripped Ludlow since its founding and, once unearthed, has the power to destroy everything in its path.

The cast includes Jackson White, Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, Henry Thomas, Natalie Alyn Lind and Isabella Star LaBlanc, Pam Grier and David Duchovny.

It marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Lindsey Beer, who co-wrote the script with Jeff Buhler.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines will stream on Paramount+ from the 6th October.
