Denzel Washington returns to dish out justice in The Equalizer 3, and here’s the trailer for the final film in the saga.
While Liam Neeson may have popularized the “ex military man ploughs through countless bad guys to save a child’ subgenre with Taken in 2008, Denzel Washington got there first in Tony Scott’s terrific Man On Fire in 2004. Since then, he has become something of an action star, headlining two Equalizer films whose plots, while simple, did allow for the cathartic sight of Denzel delivering old school justice to copious villains in increasingly violent ways.
Now, Washington is back as Robert McCall in The Equalizer 3. The official synopsis reads as follows:
Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.
The film sees Washington reunite with Man On Fire co-star Dakota Fanning, alongside Sonia Ben Ammar, Remo Girone, Andrea Dodero, Eugenio Mastrandrea, Andrea Scarduzio, Salvatore Ruocco, Daniele Perrone, and Gaia Scodellaro.
The same creative team from the first two films are back behind the camera too, with Antoine Fuqua directing from a screenplay by Richard Wenk.
The Equalizer 3 will be released on the 1st September, and you can watch the trailer below…
