Yeon Sang-ho, the director of Train To Busan, is working on a brand new zombie movie by the name of Gunche ā€“ more here.

I’ve gone back to the stunning Train To Busan several times since I first saw it. The 2016 South Korean zombie horror movie is currently on Netflix and ITVX in the UK.

On the surface, it’s the story of a zombe outbreak, and one that’s cinematically realised quite brilliantly. But underneath, there’s a whole lot more going on, that I don’t want to spoil and/or talk about here. It’s an amazing film, the work of director Yeon Sang-ho. He’s also behind the other films in the Train To Busan series, 2016’s Seoul Station and 2020’s Peninsula.

And now? He’s hard at work on his new film, which is also set in and around the world of zombies. The movie goes by the name of Gunche, and Yeon Sang-ho has just announced his cast and the start of the production for his latest project.

The cast is led by Jun Ji-hyun, Go Soo, Ji Chang-wook and Koo Kyo-hwan, and the film has been described as “the culmination of Yeon Sang-ho’s universe, spanning from Train To Busan to Peninsula.”

What we don’t have at the moment is anything in the way of story details on the new movie. We know that it’s another zombie thriller, and that filming is underway. It’s also set for release at some point in 2026. Beyond that at the moment, the cupboard is pretty bare when it comes to further details. Gunche is also the title that it’s unlikely to be released in the UK under, but then distribution details are also set to be sorted out.

In the meantime, it’s worth keeping the project on your radar, and it’s worth also – if you’ve not had the considerable pleasure – checking out Train To Busan. You are in for an absolute treat.
