Rustin and Sing Sing star Colman Domingo may have a role in Steven Spielberg’s next film, The Dish, according to a new report.
Having just appeared in the acclaimed Sing Sing, Colman Domingo could be about to star in one of 2026’s most high-profile movies. According to Deadline, Domingo is in ‘early talks’ to take a role in Steven Spielberg’s secretive next movie, understood to be called The Dish.
Casting for Spielberg’s film appears to be ongoing at a decent clip, with Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor said to be in the running for lead roles in recent months. Most recently, Irish actor Eve Hewson, who previously appeared in Spielberg’s Bridge Of Spies, was also singled out as a potential addition to the growing roster, which may also include Colin Firth.
Domingo has turned in some reliably magnetic performances over the past four years or so, including Rustin (which got him an Oscar nomination), Zola, If Beale Street Could Talk and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Given how little’s known about Spielberg’s film, it’s impossible to know what role Domingo will play (assuming he takes the gig). To date, we only have a handful of rumours to go on – including the theory that it has something to do with UFOs. Whatever it is, it sounds like it’ll be a more tentpole-y, perhaps on the scale of Jurassic Park; Spielberg’s hired his old collaborator David Koepp to write the script – they previously worked together on the aforementioned Jurassic Park.
Then there’s the timing of its release – 15th May 2026, which is a similar summer slot to Spielberg’s biggest films, including Jaws and E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial.
A June IMAX presentation appeared to reveal that the film’s title is The Dish – a name which certainly has a sci-fi ring to it.
More on all this as we get it.
