Uncharted movie might just have its director at the seventh attempt

Venom director Ruben Fleischer may be the person to finally get the Uncharted movie over the line.

The story so far. A week or two back, Kubo & The Two Strings and Bumblebee director Travis Knight departed the long-planned movie take on the hit PlayStation franchise Uncharted. In doing so, he became the sixth known director to depart the project, a movie Sony has been trying to get going for years.

Now, though, we’ve a fair idea who number seven up to the plate will be. Ruben Fleischer, who has directed the two Zombieland movies and Venom for Sony, has apparently bubbled to the top of the list. Deadline suggests that a shortlist has been compiled for the job, and that if Fleischer wants the gig, it’s his. It sounds like the ball’s in his court.

Not that he has that long to make his mind up. The film has Tom Holland attached in the lead role of Nathan Drake (he’s playing a younger version of the character we see in the games), and his window of availability is shrinking, giving that he needs to be shooting his third standalone Spider-Man movie for Sony by the end of the year.

Also in the cast is Mark Wahlberg, and the screenplay is from the pens of Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.

Sony is keen also to get the film going in order to fill the gap for it on its release slate in 2021. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
