Weā€™ve done a clickbait headline rather than giving away spoilers, as a Deadpool & Wolverine cameo may lead to a full movie.

Warning: This story contains spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.

By now, many of our readers will be familiar with the plot of Deadpool & Wolverine. Marvel’s latest offering has been a hit at the global box office, so chances are youā€™ve been to your local cinema to watch it. But if you haven’t and would like to experience the film spoiler-free, you might want to skip this story.

Still here? Great, we’re going to take that as a sign that you don’t mind us discussing some of the film’s cast and those long-rumoured cameos.

Variety chatted to Channing Tatum on the red carpet of his new film Blink Twice’s premiere, and the reporter asked Tatum about his recent appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. Tatum played Remy LeBeau ā€“ aka Gambit ā€“ in the film, a role heā€™s been attached to since the days of X-Men: The Last Stand. The character was due to appear in the film and Tatum was in line to play him, but he was written out of the final script.

Tatum then spent years trying to get a standalone film of the character made. Filmmakers such as Doug Liman, Gore Verbinski and Ruper Wyatt were attached to direct at various points, but the film never materialised, mostly thanks to Disney merging with Fox.

When Variety asked if a Gambit movie could now happen, Tatum answered: “I sure hope so,” before adding: “From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please.”

Tatum has also made sure that the Disney and Marvel bosses know he’s still down to make a Gambit movie.

“I’ve course I’ve said it. I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years,” Tatum told Variety. “It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God.”

There’s no official word on Marvel’s side, but the character’s return to the big screen has been well-received. Tatum took to Instagram after the film’s launch to thank Ryan Reynolds for bringing the character back to life.

“I thought I had lost Gambit forever. But he fought for me and Gambit. I will owe him probably forever,” the actor wrote in the caption of his post which featured two almost identical photos of him and Reynolds, ten years apart.

Deadpool & Wolverine wasn’t the first time we’ve seen Gambit on the big screen. Taylor Kitsch played the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009 alongside Reynolds’ first appearance as Deadpool.

If a Gambit movie does get greenlit, we’ll let you know.
