CBS has confirmed that a spin-off of Young Sheldon TV series is in the works, and here are the details.

There’s no denying that The Big Bang Theory has had huge cultural impact. Chuck Lorre’s sitcom about a group of nerds and the gorgeous girl next door ran for almost 300 episodes over 12 seasons.

The show starred Johnny Galecki as Leonard, Kaley Cuoco as Penny, Simon Helberg as Howard, Kunal Nayaar as Raj, Mayim Bialik as Amy and Melissa Rauch as Bernadette, but undoubtably the breakout star was Jim Parsons as socially awkward scientist Sheldon Cooper.

The character became synonymous with certain personality traits, with no understanding of social cues and limited sense of humour, with his catchphrase of sorts, “Bazinga!”, entering the cultural lexicon.

The character’s popularity led to spin-off Young Sheldon in 2017, which saw Iain Armitage take on the title role. It revealed his backstory and introduced us to various members of his family. It has so far run for six seasons, and after a shaky start, has really evolved into its own thing.

Now, CBS has confirmed (via Variety) that it’s developing a spin-off of a spin-off, with the new show set to follow Sheldon’s older brother George and his soon to be bride Mandy, played by Montana Jordan and Emily Osment respectively. Both are in talks to reprise their roles.

There was conflict when the 17 year-old George and the 29 year-old Mandy began their relationship in season five of Young Sheldon due to the fact that they lied to each other about their ages. In season six, Mandy gave birth and they got engaged.

In The Big Bang Theory’s timeline, George has two ex-wives, potentially putting a finite timeframe on the spin-off.

The news comes as Young Sheldon prepares to launch its seventh and final season next month. If you’re in the UK, you can catch up on all previous episodes on All4.
