Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire is hitting Netflix 22 December. Take a look at the trailer below:

Star Wars has had a terrible time trying to win audiences back after Rian Johnson premiered his bold, but controversial take on the Skywalker Saga in The Last Jedi. We’ve had some great, new stuff such as Andor, but shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi and for the most part, Ahsoka, have been a let down.

So, to quote Drew Goddard’s excellent Cabin In The Woods: “It’s time to give someone else a chance.”

Enter Zack Snyder. The Man of Steel director has long been dreaming of making his own Star Wars film, but instead, we’re getting Rebel Moon, a two-part Netflix space opera.

Boom! Now that is what we call action. The trailer features a slowed-down version of Marc Bolan’s ‘Children Of The Revolution’ which is doing some heavy lifting to communicate the film’s themes.

For fans of Snyder’s previous work, all his usual Snyderisms are there; there’s a healthy amount of grit, slow-mo and we’re willing to bet a lot of money there will be some religious, Christ-like imagery too.

Here’s the full synopsis for Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child Of Fire: After crash landing on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a stranger with a mysterious past, begins a new life among a peaceful settlement of farmers. But she soon becomes their only hope for survival when the tyrannical Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee) and his cruel emissary, Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein), discover the farmers have unwittingly sold their crops to the Bloodaxes (Cleopatra Coleman and Ray Fisher) — leaders of a fierce group of insurgents hunted by the Motherworld.

Tasked with finding fighters who would risk their lives to defend the people of Veldt, Kora and Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), a tenderhearted farmer naive in the realities of war, journey to different worlds in search of the Bloodaxes, and assemble a small band of warriors who share a common need for redemption along the way: Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a pilot and gun for hire; General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a legendary commander; Nemesis (Doona Bae), a master swordswoman; Tarak (Staz Nair), a captive with a regal past; and Milius (E. Duffy), a resistance fighter. Back on Veldt, Jimmy (voiced by Anthony Hopkins), an ancient mechanized protector hiding in the wings, awakens with a new purpose. But the newly formed revolutionaries must learn to trust each other and fight as one before the armies of the Motherworld come to destroy them all.

It’s an impressive cast. We’re particularly intrigued by Jimmy, a robot voiced by none other than two-time Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins.

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire is streaming on Netflix 22 December and Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver will follow on April 19, 2024.
