Jason Momoa and Jack Black lead the pack in Warner Bros’ long-awaited video game adaptation. Take a look at the first A Minecraft Movie trailer below.
We’ve known for a while now that Warner Bros is making a movie based on the incredibly popular game franchise Minecraft. As of 2023, Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time, so there’s a lot riding on the film’s cubic shoulders. No one quite knew how the studio would make the so-called sandbox game work in narrative form, but we’ve now got our very first trailer to give us some more clues.
Take a look at the first A Minecraft Movie trailer.
As you can see, the film stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks as well as Sebastian Eugene Hansen and Emma Myers. Jennifer Coolidge is also involved, but there’s no sign of her in the trailer.
Jared Hess is in the director’s chair while Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer provided the script for A Minecraft Movie. There’s a lot more acclaimed talent behind the camera, including Lord of The Rings production designer Grant Major and The Batman’s VFX supervisor Dan Lemmon.
There’s also a new poster, which you can spy below.
Here’s the synopsis: Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits — Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.
A Minecraft Movie is hitting UK cinemas 4th April, 2025.
