Don’t worry, everyone! David Zaslav is going to be okay, trousering $606m as a result of the Skydance/Warner Bros deal. Phew!

Here’s a heartwarming, well-earned story of success to lighten everyone’s day at the end of another long week. In proof that there’s nothing like hard work and treating people right, the outgoing boss of Warner Bros Discovery is going to – this is such a relief – no longer have to worry about where his next meal is coming from.

It can be really tough losing your job as part of a huge mega-merger, and there’s a cliché that people aren’t looked after when it happens. Thankfully, the deal that’s seen Skydance and Paramount acquire Warner Bros hasn’t been like that at all. There were real concerns that serial film-deleter David Zaslav might have been left destitute and on the streets. That he, like others in the same boat, would be left wondering if he’ll pick up another job in the sector, waking up in the middle of the night so deep were the worries in his head.

Thankfully not. He must have been just minutes away from having to set up a JustGiving page to meet the monthly bills, or turn himself to whatever job was punted at him in his LinkedIn feed, when he got the news that he’s going to be covered for a little bit going forward.

According to Variety, the shareholding that Zaslav held in Warner Bros Discovery as part of his tenure will pay out to the tune of some $606m. Now, he might need to put some of that away for a rainy day if he doesn’t immediately land a job, but it’s such a weight off his mind and ours. It’s such a worry that former CEOs won’t be severely financially damaged, even if their stewardship of a company was so poor that the whole thing ended up being sold off and swallowed up.

It’s really important in the current world that the ultra rich are recompensed at the expense of the poor, and we’ll raise the cup of tap water we can afford to David Zaslav’s very deserved success. If only the world was full of more people like him. Well done, David! You smashed it!
