Vin Diesel is crying over the latest Fast Forever script, but it’s not clear if director Louis Leterrier has seen it yet.
I confess, I’m invested now. After the last two Fast & Furious films, the franchise had left me behind a bit. But the very saga of trying to get Fast Forever made is turning into something even more convoluted than the plots of some of the films.
If you’ve been following this, it mostly seems to be powered by Vin Diesel’s mouth at this stage. That there was the suggestion the movie had – finally! – started shooting, but then it turned out that it hadn’t. It’s been written, the budget’s had to be cut, and more recently, Vin Diesel has been crying over the latest draft of the screenplay.
In a good way, to be clear. Best script he’s read in decades, apparently.
Today, the light shifts to the director of Fast X, Louis Leterrier. He, you may remember, jumped onto that film at the last minute when Justin Lin – who was supposed to be helming – abruptly quit. Leterrier is on board to direct Fast Forever as well, but, er, has another film to finish first.
Chatting to Polygon, he confirmed he’s still set to direct the new film as well, but his responses are less, well, ‘effusive’ than some of Vin Diesel’s postings on the matter.
On the one hand, Vin Diesel is weeping over the new draft of the script. On the other? Er, the man who’s directing the film doesn’t appear to have been furnished with a copy.
“I’d love to tell you the full truth but I can’t”, he said when questioned about said document.
“There will be an ending, and it’s great”, he insists. “I was very, very lucky to be part of the franchise, and I love Vin and I love Universal. They’re great to work with. So yeah. We’ll see, hopefully.”
Lord knows how much lifting the word ‘hopefully’ is doing there, but the window to hit the previously-announced March 2028 release date does appear to be narrowing with every Vin Diesel Instagram post.
