There’s a new Film Stories podcast for your ears! This week, it’s about Louis Leterrier’s The Incredible Hulk (2008) and Daniel Espinosa’s Life (2017).
In this episode of Film Stories, a little bit of a Marvel misfire, and a film that was pitched by the owner of the company that made it.
When Marvel first went into making films, it secured over $500m via a major loan to fund its plans. It was felt that a Hulk movie, The Incredible Hulk, was needed quickly to help pay things off. That and Iron Man thus went into production at the same time – and one would go a lot, lot more smoothly than the other (hint – title star Ed Norton was set to make two Hulk films, but ultimately didn’t).
Life, meanwhile, is an often-overlooked sci-fi hit from 2017. Not only is it a good film, though, but it came together extremely quickly. And for writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Rheese, they were given a one line idea and around a month to work out just what the resultant film would be. Plus: the shadow of the not-dissimilar Alien: Covenant was on the horizon…
